Duplicate reports of the same animal

Several people may report the same animal. Verified CritterCross admins review reports regularly and flag possible duplicates: reports of the same species within 100 meters and 5 days of each other. Using those criteria, the locations and the photos, an admin decides whether the reports are the same animal.

Reports judged to be the same animal are given the same eventID. Nothing is removed: every individual report stays in the download as its own row. Before counting animals or analyzing collisions, filter or group the data by eventID (for example, keep one row per eventID) so that duplicate reports don't skew your results.
